SYB Friday 666 - 25th February 2011
Out of the darkness and into the light.... Last night was dry and for the first time in a few months, a tad warm as well. SYB is taking this omen as the start of good things to come, surely it's time all this pish weather let up and makes way for proper hell sesh conditions?!
This week's SYB is from when the dark nights were black and demonic. Shimmin managed to actually skate one of my famous "Aye , so I seen this spot when I was sitting on the bus to work... looks do-able" unskateable spots. Rough run-up, ollie up, tiny rough concrete block to dodgy fence ollie. The guy is a fucking machine when it comes to getting shit done.

SYB Friday 666 - 18th February 2011
A nippy fucking night at Saughton...
Sometimes when out shooting photo's the photographer has to go thru the pain barrier as much as the skater. The photo below highlights one of those nights. Sometimes you can get your shot after a few tries, sometimes it's after a hundred tries. Dunder, wilmot and tam to name a few were all shralping the big flat bank at Saughton, on one of the first proper dry nights in January.
Dunder was trying something mental that was taking ages which in turn meant I was standing freezing my arse off to get the shot. So Tam L jumped in on the sesh and stuck some shit quicker than you could say 'french toast'... which spurred me on enough tae wait on wee joe getting his shit locked in.
Be sure to keep an eye out for that photo soon. In the meantime here's Tam Pon hurricane'in the big bank like it wer nowt...

Forgot how good Div was....
at slamming! He had some of the best slams i've ever seen. He either went full speed and landed something mental or smashed himself up trying it! Looks like he will be featured on this US skateshop video.

SYB Friday 666 - 11th February 2011
'Valknut'
The old norsk word 'Valknut' seems to be very apt for this post. It translates as 'the slain warrior' and this week's 666 is a tribute to the fallen 'Concrete Slayer' - Adam Paris, who got his collarbone smashed up shredding the Saughton Bowl.
Sometimes you gotta lay your body on the line when yer going for it. But probably one of the best qualities of skateboarding that SYB salutes is sucking up the pain, brushing yerself off, having a laugh at yerself then getting back on that sometimes infuriating piece of wood tae shralp again.
I know for a fact tho, that this demon of a skater will be back soon - ripping the absolute shit out of the concrete as soon as he can. So until then here's a photo of him doing whit he does best. Raising hell on transitions!!!

Adam Paris - massive tweaky stale TAE FAKIE @ EK indoor.
In other good news - the bohemmoth that is Stu Graham has had his 3rd wee bairn. Congrats big man!

Product Review: Bamboo Board by Single Skatboards

Of the greater evils in Skateboarding alot of us are frequently acquainted with the more common and altogether unwanted ones. The most common, probably that hard slam at least once a shred, or maybe the annoying little fruit booter that gets in your way at the skate park, a flat spot on your wheel or a real session ender - a snapped board! It's a gut wrencher as it usually happens when your having a fucking beauty of a session shralping.
And this is where Single Skateboards have came in with quite a genius idea. Solving not 1 greater evil but 2, that us skateboarders have:
1: The amount of Board snapping we do.
2: Our impact on the environment - since every board we skate is made from trees.
Christophe at Single Skateboards kindly gave one of the SYB LADs - Aaron Wilmot a board to test and here's what he had to say about it along with some pics of the boards:

"More and more people are worrying about the effects of global warming these days,if you are into helping the environment and trying new and interesting ways to stop global warming then try a bamboo board on for size! Myself and some of the SYB lads tested these new earth helpers and found that the 8.25 singles skateboard was a wee treat. Its made up of 3 layers of bamboo plywood, which means it is theoretically the same build as a normal board, but it's super strong and very light however still gives great flexibility, so it works well for a board.
The shape of the board is not unusual, it feels ready to rip as soon as you step on it,the nose is fat meaning grabbing it or smashing out a lip trick like a nose pick is nae bother. The tail was sweet, great snap to the pop - which is something every skater is afraid of when trying a new type of board. The wood itself slides really fucking good as well!
All in all this board is SYB approved. No of the lads managed to snap it after putting it thru its rigorous Shralping test. And further more I've heard that no one has snapped one yet by doing a trick so....
1: If your a shralper that maybe wants to learn alot of tricks but keep snapping boards - give it a go!
2: A balls out skater that jumps down big shit and snaps boards constantly - give it a go!
3: A ganja smoking skate hippie (I know stereotype!) / environmently friendly Concrete Slayer - give it a fucking go!"

SYB Friday 666 - 28th January 2011
This weeks Friday 666 comes with some hope and good vibes that the weather is about to turn and shralpers across the land are gonna be able to start hitting the Concrete Seas with some hell fire this year. We can smell a good year of mental shit going down already.... Let's just hope all the grit is washed away from the grimmey streets tae.
To say a big 'fuck you' and 'cheerio' to the winter blues yer boy Shezz blasted a massive ollie high to low at the new section in Unit 23, Dumbarton. On hopefully one of a few visits he'll need to make this year to an indoor..... demon knuckles crossed.

Look out this week for January's Product review by Aaron Wilmot testing.... a Bamboo deck!

A beast of a part....
I watched this today and realised it was one of THE video parts of last year. The fact the dude put a full length part out, under only his name and his reputation on the line shows you just how this part is. His first shoe for gravis was a bit controversial but no the less. Mad shit.

SYB Friday (sunday) 666 - 21st Jan 2011
Ok so first off apologies for the delay as my router was fucked! So the SYB Friday is a sunday just this once. Plus with all the shit weather landing in scotland the now the photo ops have been bare. So this little treat comes from last year when it was still possible to shred outside.
Provding the shralpage is none other than the beast from the Strathaven Adam O'bryne with a Dan Drebhol-esque ciggy in mouth boardslide.

In other news Unit 23 in Dumbarton is now finished and hella good so pick a quiet night and go get a shred.

Smokey Joe hitting the new Unit 23
Some of the LADS hit up the New Unit 23 to have a look at the layout and get a wee shred. The place is shaping up nicely and looks like it could have some sick potential. Can't go wrong with a pole jam!
The 1st phase is now open for shredding and you can see here Dunder making full usage of it. Another highlight was Cannibal Colin dealing out a brutal lesson to some wee arsehole bladers! It was fucking epic.
Dunder- 5.0 across and in.. @ Unit 23
